Under construction Larry Bristol (me!) is the head honcho at the Double Luck. That (and one dollar and fifty cents) will buy me a cup of coffee at almost any airport in the country. Being head honcho is not the same as it used to be. As head honcho, I make all of the decisions concerning matters of great importance --- like what should be done to end wars, disease, and hunger --- like what should be done about taxes and social security --- like what should be done about global warming and deforestation --- like what should be done to prevent El Niño weather patterns --- the really important matters. Decisions concerning trivial matters are made by Marsha.

I started out as a child. I was born in a small town in south Texas by the name of Raymondville. There is nothing particularly distinguished about Raymondville, Texas, unless you think that being the first bit of civilization one encounters driving south from Kingsville, Texas across the King Ranch is distinguished. So you are probably wondering right now why someone as important as me would choose to be born in such an humble location. The simple reason is that I was quite young at the time, and being somewhat immature, wanted to be close to my mother.

Before I knew what had happened, I was whisked off to another small town, this time in central Texas, known as Bryan. I received a first rate free public education at the hands (and knees) of the Bryan school system, eventually graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School. Actually, there was little they could do to prevent it.

At this point, my parents made me offer that could not be refused. I could attend any institution of higher learning I desired. As long as it was a state supported school, they would pay for my tuition and books. I could live anywhere I wanted, with free room and board (as long as I wanted to live at their house). Any other financial needs were to be my own responsibility.

Fortunately, there happened to be a large state supported institution called Texas A&M University, located just down the road a bit in an even smaller town called College Station, Texas. Since my parents had not raised a fool (well, they had actually, but I will not be speaking of my sister in this material), it was this university that I decided was the best one for my needs. Before one could even wink, blink, or turn on the lights, I received a B. S. degree in Industrial Engineering, graduating with a BAL of 4.3!

That means "Blood alcohol level", and has nothing to do with grades. Later in life, this fact would serve me quite well! In one of my most important current roles, I am the brewmeister for the Double Luck Brewery.

I studied to become an engineer because I had always been fascinated with trains. Imagine my surprise when the professors kept droning on and on about vectors and tolerances and something called thermodynamics! None of these things, of course, were destined to have any influence upon my life, although my love of trains has served me well over the years. Another one of my important current roles is that I am the head gandy dancer for the Double Luck Railroad (N Division).

My true calling in life, naturally, had nothing to do with any of these things. Why would one want to get a college degree in anything useful? So playing the classic game of "And Now for Something Completely Different," I found that I could earn a decent living merely by arranging zeroes and ones into esthetically pleasing patterns. So in my spare time, I am a data processing professional, having played in the computer industry since 1967. (Did I not say that I started out as a child?) Since 1990, I have been writing database utility software products at BMC Software.

The rest, as they say, is history.
