Using the traditional "gold" shovel, we conduct the official ground breaking ceremonies for the
Double Luck Farm House!
After all the false starts and dashed plans, things are finally starting to happen.
Now the ultimate question is, "Can we move in by the end of the millennium?"

Several dump truck loads of red clay are brought in to prepare the foundation site.

A bulldozer spreads the clay over the site to build the foundation pad.
The site must be leveled, of course, and is raised a few inches to create drainage away from the foundation
site.
The dead grasses in the foreground bear witness to the great drought of 2000!

The foundation subcontractor (Pfeffer Concrete, Bellville, TX) begins building forms.

147 cubic yards of concrete are poured into the forms, completing the foundation for the
Double Luck Farm House.
Starting early in the morning, the first loads of concrete go into the master suite area, since this is the
highest part of the slab.

Having completed the master suite area, the workers continue at the same elevation, pouring the base for the
remainder of the exterior walls.
In this photo, they are working on the exterior wall from the living room and dining room.

Finally, the entire foundation is poured.
Here we are standing just off the front porch, looking at the eventual location for the front door.
And just in case a visitor does not know where he or she is, a friendly Double Luck
reminder is there to greet them!
Additional forms are placed to construct a breezeway between the Farm House and the
Double Luck Garage.

Double Luck Farm House.
