This is the list of significant events in the construction of the Double Luck Farm House during December, 2000.

2 December, 2000

Insulation installed

Insulation is being installed by the insulation subcontractor (31W Insulation, Katy, TX) in the attic and into all of the walls, as can be seen in this view of the office area. We are even putting light insulation (R-11) into the interior walls and between the floors for sound suppression. We are scheduled to begin installing sheet rock and other wall materials on Monday, 4 December.

Sheet rock installed

The drywall subcontractor (Zeisert Drywall, Houston, TX) has been busy! Here we can see one of the guest bedrooms, where the sheet rock has been completed. In fact, sheet rock has been hung in all rooms (where it is intended), along with all ceilings throughout the house. The next step for those surfaces is the taping and floating.

Walk-in shower

Green board has been installed in water areas, such as the shower in the master bath. This large (5' x 6') walk-in shower is the subject of a lot of interest! In this photo, you can see some of the outlets. On either side there is a hand held shower head, and three adjustable body spray outlets. The left side has a fixed shower head above the seat. A large overhead rain maker shower head is for those times when we want to be completely drenched!

Screened-in porch

Here we get our first look at the beginnings of the screened-in back porch. An opening for a screen door seems to be missing on the short right wall.

Walls in living room

What about the walls that are not sheet rock? This is a view of the living room taken while standing on the stairs, showing that these walls are made of wood planking, installed by Ceasar Gatica's Trim (Houston, TX). They will be left in this natural color, with a light sealant.

Downstairs, this wood planking will be used in the master bedroom in addition to the living room, dining room, and entry.

Walls in office

Upstairs, the wood planking will also be used in the office and studio.

17 December, 2000

Knotty pine interior doors

The interior doors are hung and are being trimmed by Ceasar Gatica's Trim (Houston, TX). The doors are made from knotty pine with tongue and groove panels.

Interior window trim

More trim work is evident around the windows, as can be seen in this view of one of the guest bedrooms.

Septic system installed

The big news is that the septic system is in the ground, installed by Braden Septic Services (Hempstead, TX)! Looking back to the house, we can see that the sewer lines are installed, and ready to be connected.

23 December, 2000

Bookshelves in library

More trim work is evident as bookshelves are being completed in the library. I supposed this means we will actually have to get some books now.

Desk in office

In the office area, the beginnings of my work desk appear, making me eager to get to work. What am I saying?!? Well, at least it will be a relatively pleasant experience to work there.

30 December, 2000

Cabinets in laundry

More rough cabinet work has been done. Here we see the upper cabinets in the laundry over the washer and dryer connections.
