This is the list of significant events in the construction of the Double Luck Farm House during April, 2001.

7 April, 2001

Installation of plumbing fixtures continues. Here we see that the main kitchen sink has been mounted under the granite counter top and that the faucet and spray have been installed.

We are also seeing the installation of lighting and other electrical fixtures. This is the ceiling fan and light in the master bedroom.

Air conditioning units

As the completion date approaches, a lot of things are going on all at once. The outside air conditioning units have been installed and the system is in operation. This item was on the critical path for completion. Before the wood floors can be finished, they need to be within a stable environment for at least 15 days. This means, unfortunately, that the floors will not be complete when we arrive on 25 April.

Cabinet doors and drawer fronts

The cabinet doors and drawer fronts have been completed and are being installed. They still need to have the finish applied.

Water heater installed

The installation of the water heater makes it clear that hot and cold running water is just a step away. Note that it is a "water heater" and not a "hot water heater". Why would you need to heat hot water?

Lavatory in powder room

The pedestal lavatory has been installed in the powder room. I really like the oiled bronze faucet and handles!

Stair railings and banister

The railings are installed to protect the stairway opening; the hand rail and banister for the stairs are to be completed shortly. The hand rails are the same cherry as used for the floors. The spindles will be painted.

18 April, 2001

Porch railings

The screened porch is being finished, and the railings are being installed on the remaining open porches. A stone skirting will soon be placed onto the main cedar posts, with short cedar posts and cross railing between them.

Banister for stair case

The banister, spindles, and hand railing have been installed on the stairs. A little trim work remains on both ends of the steps.

Cabinet doors and drawer fronts

The cabinet doors and drawer fronts are being installed. In this view of the kitchen, we can see how birch bead board has been mounted into a birch frame to make the doors and drawer fronts. They will have a natural finish to match the cabinet frames. After that, only the knobs and drawer pulls will remain.

23 April, 2001

Finished cabinet doors and drawer fronts

The cabinet doors and drawer fronts have been given a natural finish to match the cabinet frames.
