Just to prove anyone can write a novel if they try hard enough, Larry presents Crossroads for your reading pleasure. This epic story (1200+ pages in three volumes) is about four teenagers growing up during the late 1960s and early 1970s. You probably think it's all about sex, drugs, and rock and roll! But since the story takes place in Bryan, Texas, a small, conservative town that does not cotton to such things, at least not in public, let's call it a nostalgic recollection of the times.

Romance? It's in here. It contains a bit of philosophy. Life and death, war and peace, religion and politics — nothing is held sacred! Perhaps you will even be offended by what you read, or maybe it will just cause you to think. At least you can be grateful there are no gratuitous, graphical depictions of violence where someone's guts are spilled on the ground in sickeningly gory detail. Does anybody really like that sort of thing?

In addition, there are no gratuitous, graphical depictions of sexual frenzies where the only point is to over-stimulate your libido, raising both your body temperature and blood pressure. No, wait! Maybe there is a little of that, but after all, everyone likes a little sex now and then! You can rest assured that this is done tastefully, and is included only because it is relevant to the story line!

Drugs and alcohol also receive some mention here and there. It might not be possible to tell a story of the 60s without at least mentioning such things. You have probably heard it said that those who can remember the 60s must not have been there. Music, especially folk songs, protest songs, and rock and roll songs, was an integral part of the times, and any story that failed to mention such music could not possibly represent reality.

Maybe the story is about sex, drugs, and rock and roll after all?

Volume I — Crossroads: One Day Of Magic

Once upon a time, there were four teenagers – Larry, Sam, John, and Julia – growing up during the 1960s in Bryan, a small town in central Texas. They were such good friends they were known as the Four Musketeers. Wherever you found one, you were sure to find the others.

Larry first met Julia at her birthday party. She was just a skinny little girl of fourteen, with braces on her teeth, skinned up knees, and a few teenage blemishes on her face she tried to hide with some light makeup. But something in her reached out and touched him somewhere deep inside. Maybe it was just her simple, sweet smile. Maybe it was her musical voice. Maybe it was those deep green eyes that seemed to surround infinity itself!

But it was déjà vu all over again, wasn't it? She already had a boyfriend, and that was the story of his life. How could he learn what was so special about her unless they spent time together, staring into each others' eyes, sharing their secrets, and making that special connection he wanted to find so badly?

He knew he had to be patient. All he had to do was bide his time, and sooner or later, he would be in just the right place at just the right time! Then he would find his One Day Of Magic.

Volume II — Crossroads: Heaven In Her Eyes

The story of the Four Musketeers – Larry, Sam, John, and Julia – continues as the teenagers grow into young adults.

Plans are put on hold when a tragedy befalls them. They are forced to come even closer together than ever before, not only to take care of each other, but to take a stand against the injustice and insanity that holds the world in its ugly grip.

The harsh reality of the universe confronts Larry personally. The dream he has been nurturing for over four years moves hopelessly beyond his reach. The only option left to him is to let it go, for the secret of happiness is not the pursuit of the things one wants, but the satisfaction derived from the things one has. He must transform himself from the boy seeking his own selfish interests and desires, into the man who selflessly places the wellbeing of those he loves ahead of his own.

Yet how can he simply walk away from everything he cherishes? He knows what he has seen and what it means. He must find a way to reach the Heaven In Her Eyes.

Volume III — Crossroads: Path Of Gold

The story of the Four Musketeers – Larry, Sam, John, and Julia – moves on. The young adults are approaching the end of their college days, preparing to take their rightful places in the world.

The road before them is still filled with Crossroads, and there is no road map to guide them. Experience should help them find their way. They know that skill and science must inevitably win out over ignorance and superstition, yet the lessons they have learned from the universe often indicate otherwise.

There are those who believe if anyone should ever find the true meaning of existence, that the universe would instantly transform itself into something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is strong evidence that this must be true, for in the blink of an eye, Larry's universe is destroyed and another arises to take its place. He now travels along a road with no familiar landmarks, and with no clue what might lie beyond that next bend, or over that next hill.

As the Four Musketeers navigate through the twists and turns they encounter on their journey, the question remaining is a simple one. Can they find the Path Of Gold that leads to happiness?
